About Elementary School Assemblies
I offer a variety of elementary school assemblies that are fun and educational. Strong emphasis on FUN! Kids will retain knowledge better if they are having fun while learning.
Elementary school assemblies are most effective when we separate the age groups. I suggest at least three different grade levels: pre-k – 1st, 2rd – 3rd, 4th – 5th, with about 15-minutes in between each group. This will allow enough time to move the first group out, bring the next group in, and for me to reset my props. If you would rather only have two groups or have all grade levels at once, then I would suggest seating the lower grades in front and upper grades in back.
I’ve been working with schools and teachers since 2003 to develop the best way to share these important messages with students. Laughter brings people together! That is my school assemblies are loaded with humor and audience participation. Kids don’t want to just watch a magic show. They want to be IN a magic show. They want to know that their participation matters.

Red Ribbon Week Show
California Joe’s Red Ribbon Week Magic Show (titled: Making Magic Choices) is a fun-filled magic show that’s all about making choices and asking for help. Throughout the show California Joe will ask the kids to come on stage and help with the tricks, saying that he can’t do it alone. With each effect, the kids get to make a choice and then see how their choices affect the outcomes of the tricks. The lesson is that choices have consequences and it’s okay to ask for help. Choices give you power! The more choices you have, the more power you have!

Anti-Bullying Show
Be The HERO is the title of this great anti-bullying magic show. With a focus on Storytelling, other core concepts: Good Character, Respecting Cultural Differences, and Helping Others. California Joe uses magic tricks to illustrate three main ideas when constructing a good story: creating a character, world-building, and plot development. The message is that we are all authors of our own stories, but we all also play a role in other people’s stories. If given the choice, you always want to be the HERO in someone else’s story.

Special Needs Magic Show
For Sensory Sensitive Audience
California Joe has performed hundreds of performances for special needs audiences. He believes everyone should be able to enjoy a magic show. That is why he adapted his Adventure Magic show for a sensory-sensitive audience, removing loud noises, flashing lights, and sudden movements. If an audience member wants to participate but they are unable to join California Joe on stage, then they can do so right from their seats. California understands that this is a SPECTRUM and no two people with special needs are the same.
You can choose any of the shows listed below for a special needs program. CLICK HERE to learn more about California Joe’s Special Needs Programs.

Rewards Magic Show!
Just For Fun!
This elementary school assembly is exactly how it sounds! Just a fun show that you can use as a way to REWARD students for their achievements! A couple of examples would be participating in a fundraiser, making the honor roll, or 5th-grade graduation. Those are just a few ideas of how you can celebrate your students’ achievements. What’s nice about this show is that California Joe will pull from his other shows all of the best tricks and perform some new ones. Since this show does not need to adhere to any particular theme, he can perform tricks that wouldn’t fit into his other assembly programs. Even of the kids have already seen one of California Joe’s assemblies, they are guaranteed to see something new!

Insurance Q&A
Below are frequently asked questions regarding school district and state requirements. I understand that there is a lot of red tape. While on going over the state’s and district’s requirements with one elementary school principal, she broke down saying, “I just want magic show?! Why is this so hard?!” I totally felt her frustration. All you want it to provide a fun and educational program for the kids. That’s why I’ve spent the extra money and took the extra time to make the process easier. If it’s within my budget and within my control, I’ll make it happen.
In some cases, a waiver will be requested. But in most cases, I have everything you need to make the process go as smoothly as possible. Please let me know if you have any other specific requirements or questions.
Do You Have General Liabilty Insurance?
YES! I have extensive coverage that goes beyond the state’s requirements.
Can We Get An Additional Insured Endorsement?
Absolutely! It take about one to three days to get the endorsement after I’ve submitted for it. The policy will be added as a link to your invoice in the “Event Documents” section. That way, you’ll have everything in one place!
Does Your Policy Meet The State's SAM Requirements?
Yes it does. I pay about $600 more each year for the state-required “Sexual Abuse and Molestation” coverage, up to one-million-dollars.
Can You Provide A W9?
Of course! You will receive a copy of my W9 automatically when you receive the invoice. If you need it earlier, just let me know.
Do You Have Commercial Automotive Insurance?
No. I do not have a commercial vehicle and, therefore, do not need to have commercial insurance. If this is something that you require, then we will need a waiver for it. But, I do have full coverage on my vehicle and am happy to provide my auto insurance policy upon request.
Do You Carry Workman's Comp?
I do not. I am the only employee of my business. I am not required to have workman’s comp. If this is something required on your contracts, then we will need a waiver.
Are Your Shots and TB Test Up-To-Date?
Yes they are! On the invoice, you’ll find a link to a Google Drive folder that contains my vaccination and TB test records.
Do You Accept Purchase Orders?
Yes I do! When I receive the purchase order from the district, I’ll add the PO number to the invoice.
Do You Offer Discounts?
I offer discounts for multiple bookings within the same calendar year. The price goes down with each new invoice. The first assembly of the year is always full price.
Do You Travel Outside Orange County?
Absolutely! If you are within a one-hour radius of zip code 92866, then you are considered “local.” Anything outside of that may be subject to additional travel costs. If you are more than 3 hours away, then you may need to pay a “buy-out fee.” Mean, you are buying out my services for the day, which will prevent me from accepting other potential bookings. The buy-out fee is on top of the travel costs.
Is There A Way To Avoid Travel Costs?
Yes! For example, if I had to travel to Sacramento from Orange County, there would be some hefty travel costs on top of the buyout fee. BUT, if a group of schools in Sacramento got together to coordinate their schedules so they could all book me on the same day, or even over a two day period, then I would waive the buyout fee and split the travel costs between the schools. Depending on how many schools are on board, it’s also possible to waive the travel costs.
This doesn’t just apply to schools! If you have connections with your local libraries, daycares, or civic centers, you can coordinate with them too.
